The Coronavirus Pandemic has greatly changed all of our lives, for both the better and the worse, over the past year. Certainly Oxford Creativity is a very different, and we hope much better,  organisation than it was 12 months ago. Here are five ways the past year has changed the we teach TRIZ.

Newton was in lock down when his theory of gravity / laws of physics became clear to him – he had been sent back to his family home from Cambridge because of a plague outbreak. It was thought that the overworked postgraduate needed the break from teaching and research to allow time and peace to do their work on his brain and thoughts.

Thinking clearly and coherently is one of the most important skills TRIZ delivers. This applies in all situations even when your brain may not be the organ driving your behaviour – when your heart takes over then you need TRIZ logic and clarity even more than before.

A few years ago, I visited Barcelona as a guest of Dassault Systèmes to see how their Computer Aided Design (CAD), engineering tools and TRIZ have helped realise the artistic visions of Architects both present and past to the great benefit of Spanish architecture¹.

Gender equality matters and I hoped that I knew what to do when asked to help answer to the question ‘Why is it so hard to get more women in IT?’. All I had to do was Trust TRIZ* and work with people who have the right, relevant knowledge but no clear answers yet.
