What is HIT?

Human Intelligence Tools (HIT) is a modular library of self-facilitated, action packs to run 1-2 hour workshops. They are designed to support both business and technical teams working on real, urgent problems.

The packs are deliberately practical and easy to use, foregrounding application and needing
no prior teaching.

All nine workshop packs support specific outcomes and produce tangible outputs. HIT ensures that valuable team time is never squandered but enables an effective and fast pace for meetings, which challenge understanding and ensure the location of pragmatic solutions.

What are the nine HIT packs?

1.Bad Solution Parks - Create an effective culture for efficient meetings and brain-storming

2. Ideal Outcome - Vision best outcomes and  summarise what everyone wants – all benefits

3. Time and Scale - Combine everyone’s Talented Thinking to fully understand the context

4. Ideality Audit - Recognise the good and bad of challenge Cost, Benefit, Harm analysis

5. Mobilise Resources - Use what you’ve got to get what you want – find clever solutions

6. Problem Snapshot - Know what you know map to troublesome areas of the challenge

7. Solve Contradictions - Resolve Conflicts applying unique 40 TRIZ Inventive Principles solution triggers

8. Trimming Rules - Simplify systems and processes to solve issues and achieve cost savings

9. Team Solution Plot - Sort and prioritise solutions for immediate implementation

What does a HIT action pack include?

  • Orientation video: a short briefing to establish context and intent (2–3 mins, up to 5 mins)

  • Facilitation guide: clear, step-by-step instructions for running the activity with a team

  • HIT worksheets: ready-to-use resources that scaffold the thinking and capture outputs

  • Value capture: synthesis template that distils outputs into clear, actionable insights

  • Next steps: clear signposting to follow-on tools. The overall design principle is learn by doing, with just enough instruction to allow teams to work together confidently, share their knowledge to create stronger outcomes and derive maximum value from the session

Teams can use just one or two of the HIT packs, or if needed work through all nine, or be guided to select and follow the ones relevant to their situation. The nine HIT brief workshops are derived from Oxford TRIZ logic, thinking and tools, and guide teams through structured activities.

Management and Business people can begin immediately with no knowledge of TRIZ and can apply the first 9 HIT modules. For L&D departments, the bite-sized, results-focused format is straightforward to deploy and justify.

Each workshop shifts how problems are understood and leads to more effective solutions, without asking users to learn TRIZ as a methodology. HIT sits alongside existing TRIZ materials rather than competing with them, and will be invaluable to the existing TRIZ community enabling them to work together with non-TRIZ users to get results. This will also help TRIZ technical teams to embed its logic and power in their culture, thinking and organisation. HIT helps them gain a clear pathway into real-world application, and these workshops show them how to apply much of their TRIZ learning immediately to their problems. For HIT users facing complex problems which will occasionally need more solution guidance and power, we offer progress into further HIT modules based on deeper TRIZ learning for patents and IP using the 8 Trends, 76 Standard Solutions together with detailed function mapping.

Each HIT action pack is brief and focused on application. These are step by step self facilitated fast paced, brief workshops to guide teams to define, understand and resolve any challenges including the difficult and complex. HIT guides teams to share their knowledge and experience so together they locate the best answers they need.
