Effective TRIZ Problem Solving in 5 days
Oxford Creativity has developed a programme of 5 intense days, in order to fit in with the busy schedules of the engineers and managers who learn with us. These 5 days are split into 2 workshops: Basic and Advanced TRIZ. Visit the Events page for dates and venue details.
DAY 2: Solving Contradictions
& Using Resources
Learn and use the TRIZ tools for solving technical and physical contradictions (40 Inventive Principles, Separation Principles, 39 Parameters and the TRIZ Contradictions matrix), and discover how to solve problems cleverly by using what we have: our Resources.
Discover TRIZ creativity tools of Ideal Outcome, X-factor and Ideality, and learn how to use the TRIZ tools in combination to solve problems.
DAY 3: Function Analysis, Standard Solutions & Creativity Tools
Learn the full tool-kit of TRIZ Creativity Tools for breaking psychological inertia and generating creative ideas.
Learn the powerful tool for mapping engineering systems, understanding systems and solving problems: TRIZ Function Analysis and complete your TRIZ toolkit by learning the TRIZ Standard Solutions, simple and powerful lists for fast and effective problem solving.
DAY 4: The Problem Solving Process
The Advanced workshop concentrates on the practical application of TRIZ on difficult, real world problems. Learn how to use all the TRIZ tools together in the systematic TRIZ problem solving process, and how to define and understand problems.
Use the 9 Boxes in more advanced ways for understanding and predicting hazards and root cause problems, and how to quickly and effectively capture all needs with the Ideal Outcome.
The day finishes with a hands-on exercise stepping through problem solving process on either engineering or management issue.
There will also be a number of creativity tools to help delegates become familiar with simple but powerful tools to help break psychological inertia. These are tools for both problem understanding and solving and are clever techniques to help get the most out of your brain. Creative team building is central to all the exercises in these workshops and our training days are designed to make maximum use of the time available and are rigorous, interactive and challenging. Each workshop lasts 8 hours and a substantial part of each day is taken up with learning exercises.

An introduction to and overview of the TRIZ tools, the TRIZ problem solving process and the fundamentals of creative problem solving and innovative thinking.
Learn and use the TRIZ tools for developing systems and intellectual property protection (TRIZ Trends of Technical Evolution) and for understanding and mapping problems and solutions (9 boxes).
TRIZ is unique in that it is based upon patent analysis and TRIZ Tools are perfectly suited to circumvent and strengthen patents. Innovation-driven businesses use TRIZ to develop and protect their Intellectual Property to generate incremental and revolutionary improvements on inventions.
DAY 2: Patent Strategy
An introduction to how TRIZ thinking and TRIZ tools can help us think clearly.
DAY 3: Understanding & Circumventing
Senior Dehns' attorneys take us through how to understand patents and assess the inventive step, explains how to develop an intelligent patent strategy.
The most powerful tool for analysing a patent -
TRIZ Function Analysis
- is introduced, and we learn how to circumvent or leapfrog a patent by systematically applying the Trimming Rules.
We apply the TRIZ Trends of Technical Evolution to develop inventions to their next generation, allowing us to leapfrog competing technologies, or ring-fence our own.

The IET work in partnership with Oxford Creativity, the leading TRIZ training provider in Europe, to deliver this fast-paced introduction to TRIZ with hands-on experience of the most commonly used TRIZ tools: the 40 Inventive Principles, the Trends of Technical Evolution, Resources and Thinking in Time and Scale.
Level 2 MATRIZ International Certification Workshop
This workshop also prepares the participants for Level 2 International Certification Exam, which will be delivered at the end of the workshop. The certification was developed by TRIZ founder Genrikh Altshuller, who established the International TRIZ Association under his leadership and presidency.
Altshuller chartered the Association to run the TRIZ International Certification. This certification is internationally recognised, and the workshop will be delivered by Dr Sergei Ikovenko, current president of the International TRIZ Association.
