Management Strategies for Systematic Successful Innovation

Quick, clear and clever thinking to assess both what you want and how to get it.

We introduce and put into practice a number of rigorous management thinking tools which can be learned in a morning and transform your decision making power for the rest of your life.

TRIZ shows you where to go and how to get to your future

What is Decision Making?

Decision making is more than the process of selecting between options. Decision making is a broader process: before making a decision, we have to understand our current situation, define our goals and the scope of future action, and generate many possible directions, before we can select which course of action to take.

Once a decision has been made, action must be taken to implement the solution, and should be reflected on and learned from. Delegates will be introduced to the different stages of decision making and the different kinds of thinking required for making clever decisions.

The Psychology of Decision Making

Why don’t we always make good decisions? Delegates will be introduced to the different cognitive biases that can influence our decisions and judgements. An important part of good decision making requires assumptions to be challenged: delegates will learn how to challenge assumptions and overcome psychological barriers to good decision making.

Why TRIZ ensures you ask the right questions to get the right answers

TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR CLEVER THINKING

The majority of the workshop is spent learning tools and techniques for clever thinking and clear decision making. Delegates will learn techniques for mapping the current situation: part of good decision making is understanding the current situation and defining existing problems.

Once the current situation has been understood, it is important to understand what are our goals. This helps define the scope of action required, and ensures we are not jumping to premature solutions.

Decisions are sometimes difficult because we are choosing between a number of poor options. Delegates will learn simple yet powerful techniques for generating clever and creative solutions to difficult problems.

When a number of options have been identified, a rational process must be employed for choosing between them. Delegates will learn how to compare the ideality of different optiosn: to weigh not only the potential benefits and costs of options, but also to consider any harms - any potential downsides or risks of solutions. This encourages clear thinking and sensible decision making based on all (and only) the relevant information.

Ideality Benefits and Harms

Once a decision has been made, it must be planned and implemented. It is also an opportunity for reflection and learning. Delegates will learn how to map the causes and consequences of their decisions and learn from each decision they make.
